Yurt questions

How do I get to the yurts?

In winter only by human power — ski or snowshoe, no walking. Senate View, Star’s Perch and Honeymoon are about a mile from the lodge with an uphill start to gain the ridge: 15–30 minutes on snowshoes or 30–60 on Nordic skis. Miner’s is 30–40 minutes on skis (flatter but still uphill) or an hour on snowshoes. In summer you can drive (higher-clearance vehicle), bike or walk — Miner’s is the easiest to drive to.

How do I get my gear up?

One pull sled comes with every yurt — it’s uphill, so pack wisely (no luggage or coolers). For a fee we can haul your gear up by snowmobile and toboggan; ask when you book, we need notice.

What do we eat?

The lodge is open for lunch 11–3:30, espresso and breakfast sandwiches from 9 — but not every night for dinner. In winter, order our gourmet “Heat & Eat” yurt dinner 24 hours ahead and pick it up at check-in. In summer, there’s the Thursday night BBQ.

Is there water or electricity?

No running water: in winter you melt snow (start with a little water in the pot), in summer bring jugs — you can fill them at the lodge. Each yurt has a Goal Zero solar system for the lights; please don’t charge devices.

Check-in and check-out?

Check-in 2–5 pm, check-out by 11 am. Arriving after 5? Call ahead — the doors often lock at 5 and there may be nobody around. Bring a headlamp, have your rentals reserved 24 h ahead, park on the edge of the lot and grab your sled by the ski-shop fence.

Can I bring my dog?

Yes, at every yurt, summer and winter. In winter snowshoe in with your dog (the Nordic trails to the yurts are closed to dogs) and keep them away from the clean-snow area. Don’t leave them alone in a warm yurt in summer.

Is rental gear or a trail pass included?

A snowshoe pass is included; skiing in needs a BCRD trail pass. Skis and snowshoes aren’t included — stop at the shop before you head up.

Cancellation?

Full refund up to three weeks before your stay, less $25 card and admin fees. No refunds inside three weeks.

Any other lodging?

No — Galena is a day lodge and the yurts are its only beds. In summer there’s plenty of dispersed camping off the Forest Service roads.
